Pinch Nolis, the last living Jewish native of Šeduva, returns from Israel to research his family history. Who was his father? Was it his mother‘s husband, killed by their neighbours? Or was it his mother‘s saviour Stasys Paluckas? Personal history, indecipherable as characters on ancient Jewish tombstones, develops into a search for identity, for traces of Jewish life and death in present-day Šeduva, Israel, South Africa.
